Heather R. Trachtenberg, BSDH, RDH
and her husband, Jeff Trachtenberg
From my personal history:
I have been a practicing dental hygienist for over a decade. I met my husband in a dental office, when he was doing a practice analysis for my employer at the time. My husband Jeffrey is the regional manager for the largest dental supply company in the world, Henry Schein Dental. Since he is responsible for all of the dental technology, equipment and sales information disseminated to the dentists throughout Connecticut and Western Massachusetts I have the unique opportunity to learn about the best information in the dental industry as soon as it becomes available. When Jeff and I met, I was investigating a new long term career opportunity in my chosen field of dental hygiene by working per diem in various dental practices throughout Connecticut. By doing so, I was able to see many different office structures, technology, equipment, skill levels, interpersonal interactions with patients and staff and to experience work in various regions and environments. I have been a permanent part of Bolton Dental Group since 2007.
As co-therapist to the doctor, I am the first clinician you will meet. Your first visit will be at least 90 minutes to allow me to take initial records, perform several types of examinations, and provide oral hygiene and dietary instruction. This may be the most thorough exam you have ever received in the dental office The initial exam includes a review of your general health status and medical treatment history, a complete set of X-rays with reduced radiation by digital imaging, evaluation of the tissues and bone inside and surrounding your mouth, an oral cancer screening, a recording and evaluation of the teeth and present dental work with laser technology, oral health education, and if time permits, aid with your home care by a professional cleaning. Together with Dr. Pollack, we will inform you of your oral health status and make appropriate treatment recommendations.
I attended the University of Rhode Island from 1994-1998. At the end of my Junior year I earned my Associates degree in Dental Hygiene (ASDH). I passed the National Board Examination and the North East Regional Board Examination and became a registered dental hygienist (RDH). However, unlike many other registered dental hygienists, I continued my education and earned my Bachelors of Science degree in dental hygiene and baccalaureate minor in psychology from the University of Rhode Island in 1998.
Annually I participate in more than 25 hours of continuing education coursework. I am certified to provide CPR and AED (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automatic External Defibrillation) by the American Heart Association (AHA). I am a member of the American Dental Hygiene Association (ADHA). I attend the largest dental convention in the Northeast, the Yankee Dental Congress in Boston. During 3 days, I participate in classes, attend presentations and view exhibitions that reinforce the science of oral hygiene and enhance technology to improve patient comfort and quality of care. I also receive continuing education through the annual programs designed by Seattle Study Club’s Connecticut chapter, attendance at the Connecticut State Dental Association’s annual 3 day convention and various other educational opportunities such as participation in the research of Dr. Pollack through the PEARL network and the NIH (National Institute of Health).
In addition to my degrees and advancement of education, I pride myself on my commitment to community with volunteer work and advocacy for the underserved Medicaid population. One of my most rewarding experiences was my participation in the pilot Mission of Mercy program in April 2008. My husband is on CTMOM’s board of directors and we have both played an active role raising money and volunteering our services. In a day and a half, 850 community and oral health volunteers provided an excess of $500,000 in dentistry at no cost to 1200 patients lacking access to oral health care. By our joint efforts the Connecticut Mission of Mercy is scheduled to be an annual event.
Bolton Dental Group has a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere that promotes patient comfort. We have fun while doing our jobs and providing exceptional quality of care. I hope you find our office just as enjoyable. I look forward to meeting you!
